This year, working with AI forced me to unlearn something I was very sure about.
I assumed the hard part for most people would be the technology.
Prompts. Tools. Models. Features.
It wasn’t.
Spending time inside ChatGPT every day, especially with non‑technical people, made one thing obvious very quickly:
When AI feels messy, overwhelming, or inconsistent, it’s rarely because the system is failing.
It’s because the thinking that enters the conversation already is.
I’ve watched this play out over and over.
Someone opens ChatGPT in a rush.
They type whatever is sitting at the top of their mind.
They hope the tool will somehow sort things out for them.
When the answer comes back noisy or off‑target, they blame the AI.
But when that same person pauses long enough to say what they actually want, and just as importantly, what they don’t want, the experience changes immediately.
The output calms down.
The response gets sharper.
The frustration disappears.
This newsletter isn’t about prompts or hacks.
It’s about three things AI quietly taught me this year about human behaviour, and why getting those right makes every tool feel simpler, more reliable, and easier to trust.
Three things AI quietly taught me about humans this year:
1. Most people don’t know what they want; they just know what they don’t want to feel
This is the pattern I see most often.
People open ChatGPT because something feels uncomfortable. They feel behind, overloaded, unsure, or stuck. They don’t come in with an outcome; they come in with tension.
So they type something vague and hope the tool will sort the situation out for them.
When the response comes back unfocused, they call the AI inconsistent.
But the shift is immediate when someone says two simple things:
“Here’s the outcome I want,” and “Here’s what I don’t want.”
The answers get calmer. Shorter. More useful.
Nothing about the model changes.
Only the intent does.
Most frustration with AI isn’t about bad output. It’s about unclear intention.
2. We mistake speed for progress, and AI exposes that
A lot of people use ChatGPT the way they send emails, fast, reactive, half‑thought. They’re trying to move, not think.
The best results almost always come after a brief pause. Not a long one. Ten seconds is usually enough. Long enough to decide what the actual request is.
One sentence. One goal. One clear outcome.
That pause saves far more time than it costs.
AI doesn’t reward urgency. It rewards precision. And precision has to come from the person typing, not the tool.
3. Most people aren’t looking for answers; they’re looking for relief
This one took me the longest to notice.
A lot of people aren’t using AI to think better. They’re using it to make the discomfort stop. They want reassurance. They want the feeling that something has been handled.
But AI doesn’t calm mental chaos. It reflects it.
Clear input leads to calm, focused output. Messy input leads to more mess, just faster.
Once this clicked for me, everything made sense. AI didn’t suddenly get smarter this year. It just stopped compensating for vague thinking.
When I changed how I showed up to the conversation, the tool stopped feeling complicated.
That’s what I help people with now.

Not hacks.
Not tricks.
Just learning how to think clearly before AI gets involved, because when the thinking is solid, the technology finally feels simple.
